The App Idea Awards is a competition where people compete to get their app idea made for free. No equity is taken and all the intellectual property remains yours.

Who Should Apply?

Anyone over the age of 18 who has a good idea for an app or an app in early stage of development (less than 5,000 monthly active users), including students, developers, designers, product managers, grandmothers, and more. You can be a team of ten or a team of one. 

How Will It Be Judged?

Applications will be judged based on the entrepreneurial vision, user flow and design, monetization strategy, and the team's general ability to execute the app's proposed business plan. We like good ideas...but we prefer those that can also generate revenue and scale.  

Where & When?

Applications will open on Tuesday, January 3rd 2017. Join us for the Launch Party on March 1st at General Assembly. The application closes on April 24th, 2017 at midnight. The finals will take place in New York City on June 7th. Sign up for any news or updates along the way. 

How do you win?

Step one: Apply. 

After applying, your application will be judged on the following categories:

• General Strength of Concept
• Monetization Strategy
• Entrepreneurial Vision
• User Design
• Team's Ability to Execute

We will then select a group of 6 finalists from the pool of applicants. After receiving mentorship from established entrepreneurs and investors, these 6 teams will polish up their presentations and pitch their app idea to our esteemed judges (listed below) in June 2017.

What do you win?
 

One team will then be awarded $70,000 worth of design and development costs to build their app. No strings attached. 

Yes, you read that right. We take no equity in the winning company. Why not? Because we're not in it for that. We just want to help build the next great app.

We believe in a technology meritocracy, where only the best ideas win. In this competition you'll be evaluated by the quality of your app idea and the ability of your team to execute the idea. Every applicant will have an equal opportunity for success. There will be no barriers of financial resources, or locating technology talent, thereby allowing amazing entrepreneurs to succeed. 

We’re not looking for just any app idea. Rather, we’re seeking out app ideas that have strong user-experiences, are able to be executed and are supported by a solid business model. We want to highlight and reward app based business models that can both generate revenue and scale.   

This competition will allow us (and you) to watch an app idea turn into a successful app based business. We’re pretty excited about that. Although only one team will walk away with the grand prize - we believe that the App Idea Awards is more than just that. It's also an educational experience for all. Along the way, we hope that we can teach everyone a thing or two about the app creation process.
